Renault Megane GT Turbo tested

The Renault Megane you see here is not as meek and mild as you might think. While it looks considerably similar to the 1.4-litre turbocharged GT-Line with which it shares a host of its cosmetic addenda, from a mechanical point of view it couldn’t be any different employing the same engine, tyre compound and chassis configuration as the Renaultsport Megane. Sounds like a winner, right? Well, Renault SA hopes this latest addition will appeal to a new pool of buyers wanting something a little more powerful and exclusive than the GT-Line but not as harsh as a veritable RS. We took it for a shakedown around the Peninsula to see if it really is a junior RS and, more importantly, if it’s got the qualifications to compete with its chief rivals the Volkswagen Golf GTI and M-B A250 Sport.
