Renault Captur now available in SA

The all-new Renault Captur crossover is the French marque’s new addition into the hotly contested compact SUV segment. Renault says the Captur combines the personality of an SUV and the spaciousness of an MPV with the dynamism of a hatch, making it a great all-in-one package.

The Renault Captur comes in three derivatives, all petrol-powered: the flagship Dynamique EDC featuring Renault’s new generation 1.2-litre 88kW turbo engine (dual-clutch transmission only), the Dynamique 66kW and Expression 66kW both feature the 900cc turbo three-cylinder engine from the Clio.

Featuring the trademark diamond-shaped centrepiece which dominates the front grille and LED daytime running lights, the Captur comes with bi-tone body colours and 16-inch and 17-inch alloys on Expression and Dynamique variants. With its ground clearance of 170mm, the Captur offers an elevated driving position, too.

The flagship Captur Dynamique EDC (dual-clutch) sees the introduction to South Africa of Renault’s 1.2-litre 88kW turbo. Output is 88kW @ 4900rpm and 190Nm @ 2000rpm, top speed is 192kph, it’ll drink 5.4l/100km and CO2 emissions are 125g/km. The other engine in the range delivers 66kW @ 5250rpm and 135Nm @ 2500rpm, top speed is 171kph, fuel consumption 4.9l/100km and CO2 emissions 113g/km.

Practicality wise, maximum capacity of the boot totals 377 litres. With the rear bench seat pushed to its forward most position, the overall capacity increases to 455 litres. With the rear seats folded down, the total maximum boot space measures 1235 litres.

Spec wise, the Captur offers Bluetooth and music streaming from external devices. Renault’s MediaNav integrated on-board multimedia system with 7-inch touchscreen is standard. Satellite navigation and USB port are included in the price tag with every feature easily accessed via fingertip controls.

The Captur boasts a 5-Star Euro NCAP rating with Anti-Lock Braking System (ABS), Emergency Brake Assist (EBA) and Electronic Stability Program (ESP) standard, along with front airbags, head/chest side bags, seat belts with pre-tensioners and force limiters (front seats) and three ISOFIX 3-point child seat anchor seat attachments.

Mandla85

Welcome to my corner of the automotive world! I'm Mandy Lawson, better known as mandla85, and I'm absolutely obsessed with everything related to cars and motorsports. You bet I'm interested if it has four wheels (or sometimes two!) and an engine. For me, cars aren't just a means of transportation; they're a passion, a lifestyle, and an endless source of fascination. I love diving into the world of automotive engineering and design, exploring the latest trends, and uncovering the stories behind the machines. Email / Facebook
