2016 Lexus LX makes landfall

Meet the Great Conqueror, as Lexus likes to call it – the bold new LX SUV. Essentially the Lexus version of the latest Toyota Land Cruiser 200 Series, the new Lexus LX meets you head-on with its aggressive and distinctly bold front design. A large trapezoidal front grille forms the main focal point, featuring solid horizontal bars and a prominent Lexus insignia in the centre. The sculpted headlamps utilise triple LED ‘cylinders’ which not only make a powerful visual statement, but also provide superb illumination and low energy consumption. Characteristic L-shaped DRLs enhance on-road visibility whilst the Auto High Beam function assists the driver at night.Visually arresting bi-tone 20-inch alloy wheels compliment the solid stance of the LX. The rear design has also received a nip-and-tuck, with the rear tail lamps using a wider design and L-motif to project a powerful stance and create a multi-dimensional appearance.
On the inside there is typical Lexus style and sophistication, with sumptuous leather trim, piano black facia and metallic accents, adding to the luxurious ambience. Lexus’ new signature three-spoke steering wheel adorned with an array of fingertip controls forms the touch point between driver and vehicle. The LX is equipped with a new 12.3-inch multi-media display, which interfaces with the Remote Touch Interface system to provide easy navigation of the plethora of features. This is further augmented by a 4.2-inch full colour Thin Film Transistor (TFT) Multi Information Display (MID) and Heads Up Display (HUD) system. The real story here is, for the first time, the LX receives a diesel option in the form of a high-output 4.5-litre V8 punching out 195kW and a stout 650Nm of torque available from 1600 rpm onwards which is mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission. The well-established 5.7-litre V8 petrol powerplant continues as an option with an ample 270kW of power and 530Nm of torque being delivered via an 8-speed automatic transmission.
The LX has earned a reputation for not only offering amazing off-road ability but also accommodating its occupants in the lap of luxury. The newly refreshed LX takes this up a notch, receiving a rear sunshade, tyre inflation pressure warning, wireless cell phone charger (using Qi technology), seat ventilation and heating for both front and second row passengers as well as roof rails.Blind Spot Monitoring (BSM) with Rear Cross Traffic Alert, further enhances safety and convenience and supplements the comprehensive safety spec level which includes 10 airbags and a full electronic assistance package encompassed in the Vehicle Dynamics Integrated Management System (VDIM).
On the off-road front, the Multi Terrain Select system takes centre stage, tailoring vehicle response, suspension, powertrain and VDIM assistance levels based on the mode selected by the driver. The system works in conjunction with Crawl Control to equip the LX with phenomenal off-road ability.Lexus LX pricing:LX 450d – R1 393 000
