Audi Q5 3.0 TDI tested

Audi had no way of knowing exactly what they were starting by launching the original quattro at the Geneva motor show back in 1980. But with show star status secured, hill climb records and rally glory soon followed, cementing the quattro legend. Lately, even the liberal application of the badge across the entire range, from A3s to R8s has done little to dilute the potent imagery the name evokes – Mouton, Blomqvist, Röhrl and Van der Merwe monstering brutally fast cars on snow, mud, rock and bitumen.

2.0T and save R100k!

The 2.0T is way better, see its auto repair manual and you'll agree too. Plus its price is more justifiable. You'd really save more on the 2.0T.

I drive one...

Live in Munich, been driving one for 1,5 years now...same spec. Top end on the Autobahn it does approx 240km/h, very stable at this speed. Noise levels start been really audible above 200km/s. Quatro is not that "great" in the snow...but good on the high quality german roads. The auto-box is better...will have no problems on any of the ZA pot-hole ridden 'burb roads.

Interior is cheap & plasticky!!! The sun visor's plastic clips on both front visors broke off. Ergonomics are not that great. The Merc GLK, beats them all-round...The centre arm-rest console mechanism is "iffy".
Load space is fantastic: when we travel to the airport, or on vacation, I can pack 4 hard suitcases & 1 soft case innovatively on the boot. Ski's fit easily (diagonally).

Roof racks are good. You need to select some smart alloys to bling it a little otherwise it looks somewhat "plain-Jane" after a while....I'll try the GLK next, more aggressive looking, neater trim interior & exterior, good power to weioght ratio...hope it gives some food for thought to ZA buyers.
