1. Citroen Metisse

A concept that Citroen unveiled at the 2006 Paris Motor Show to express hybrids as sporty in the same way that petrol-powered cars are. A 2+2 coupe coupled with a diesel-electric hybrid sounds a little disappointing considering the stunning shape and design but the claimed 0-100kph was under 6 seconds.
2. Isuzu VX-2

This concept surfaced as long ago as 1998 and it still looks futuristic, Isuzu would have sold heaps had they built a version that looks like this. The front end snarls whilst the overall shape resembles a large beetle that you would find crawling in and out of the rocks in the Navada desert.
3. Mazda Furai

Technically speaking they did build this car and are still testing it in certain different variations but what a 2-seater sportscar this would have made? 3 rotor wankel motor powerful enough to churn out around 350kW and run on ethanol fuel along with swooping lines and a vivacious body this could have been a real winner for Mazda.
4. Volkswagen Microbus

Making retro look modern is the perfect theme for a microbus and this concept should surely have made the production line untainted. A throwback to the 70s bus that many remember so well or not so well depending on how you spent your time. The Concept was almost set for production until VW canned the project in favour of the Transporter Multivan.
5. Hyundai i-flow

Shown at the 2010 Geneva Motor Show the i-flow concept is merely a statement of intent from which Hyundai intends to build on. Hyundais of the future may carry similar styling cues but in a muted format probably to be seen on the next generation Sonata. Things are definitely looking good for the Korean firm if this is anything to go by.
6. Ford Indigo

This concept was actually built but only one model was fully functional. The Indigo was built to show off Ford’s Indy Car technology including new materials and development techniques. The Indigo housed a 6-litre V12 beast that was later used in the Aston Martin range.
7. Peugeot Hoggar

If you intend to drive on the moon, this is what the car should look like, it would even suffice as a beach buggy. The Hoggar concept was four-wheel drive to boot and powered by two separate diesel motors for both front and back wheels. Consequently the total output of the Hoggar was 268kW and 800Nm of torque. Just cool.
8. Alfa Romeo 2uettottanta

Isuzu
I don't get the thinking at Isuzu. They had the first Bakkie UV (BUV) in the Frontier, then discontinue it only to leave the gap wide open for the Fortuner, and then they can a project like the Isuzu VX-2, and now we already have Nissan, Ford and Mitsubishi with their own BUVs in the market while Isuzu has still not revived their plans. The Trooper is also dead and burried.
10 more concepts
Here are ten older concepts that should also have been put into production: Aston Martin Bulldog, Holden GTR-X (what a stunning car!), Mercedes-Benz C-111 (next to the 300 SL Gullwing and the new SLS the most beautiful Merc ever), Isuzu Vehi Cross, Ford Megastar, Renault Fiftie, the new Shelby Cobra, BMW Turbo (shown in 1972), Nissan MID 4 and the Lamborghini Marzal.
VX was produced
The Vauxhall VX was produced as the Opel GT, Vauxhall VX Roadster, Pontiac Solestice and Saturn Sky.
There is a good reason they didn't
Because some of them are Fugly. BMW and VW Microbus in particular ( and I am a BMW fan ) but that concept already looks way outdated.
Vauxhall VX lightning
The Vauxhall VX lightning was built. It became the Opel GT: http://www.netcarshow.com/opel/2007-gt/
