Subaru have announced a limited-run addition to their Impreza WRX STI model line-up. It’s called ‘spec C’ and it goes on sale in Japan today. Spec C features a comprehensive set of engine, body and chassis enhancements aimed at improved handling and performance. The use of an aluminum bonnet, new lightweight alloys, laminar front and side windows and a downsized battery result in a lighter body. Changes to the turbocharger include the adoption of ball bearings in the turbine axle to reduce friction and optimised mapping of the ECU. On the chassis side, a stiffer front suspension cross member combined with specification changes to the dampers, coil spring rates, rear stabilizer and rear sub-frame bushes are designed to reduce body roll. Subaru claims improved traction during cornering, thanks to a mechanical type rear LSD (Limited Slip Differential) system that replaces the previous Torsen type.
On the cosmetic front, gold coloured Brembo brake callipers are standard, alcantara/leather combo Recaros are optional, while two exclusive exterior colours are available; Sunrise Yellow and Pure White.
Just 900 Spec Cs will leave the factory. Looks like yet another case of JDM favouritism.
