R8 Spyder lands in SA

Audi’s R8 Spyder is now available in South Africa if you feel your current R8 doesn’t let enough sunshine into the cabin. The Spyder comes complete with the V10 engine and a soft-top roof that will open and close in 19 seconds at the touch of a single button.

The canvas roof has been specially designed to be light weight so to keep the centre of gravity low and not upset the handling characteristics. The hood can be dropped at speeds of up to 50 kph and the rear window can be lowered while the roof is in the upright position, this presumably is so you can hear the wail of the V10 even when the weather isn’t clear enough for the top to come all the way down.

You can sill purchase the Spyder with a choice of two gearboxes, the manual six-speed open gate or the 6-speed R tronic box, although that will cost you an extra R150k.

Standard equipment:

MMI Plus Navigation System

Reverse parking camera

19-inch wheels and tyres

Audi Music Interface

Bang & Olufsen sound system

Heated seats

Nappa leather seat trim
