GMSA has announced that it will be bringing the Astra back to South Africa under the Opel badge. The new look Opel Astra will make its reintroduction to the country in the first quarter of 2011.
GM has said that an improved global market has helped settle things sufficiently enough for GMSA to improve its situation. “The certainty around the future of Opel is great news for South Africa and allows us to build on the fine history of the Opel brand and the Corsa and Astra ranges,” says GMSA Vice President of Planning, Ian Nicholls.
“The new Astra has consistently made the top three list of Europe’s best-selling compacts- a segment which accounts for 27% of the total car market. Astra sales make up a third of all Opel/Vauxhall purchases, for an average volume of 500,000 units per year,” says Nicholls.
In the Astra range the petrol engines account for only two of the five models, a 1.4-litre petrol turbo and a 1.6-litre petrol turbo. The diesel models consist of a 1.3, 1.7 and 2.0-litre common rail engines.

Opel Astra comeback
And what about the new Astra OPC? Any news?
GREAT NEWS
The new Astra is an excellent car, more proof that Opel is producing there best range of cars ever. looks great as wellm a change from the staid and conservative Golf. they need to get the pricing right though. the Corsa i feel is way overpriced, the aftersales service from dealers needs to seriously improve as well, in the eastern cape its appalling.
Astra
