New Volkswagen Touareg emerges

Volkswagen has released information and pictures of the all-new Touareg, claiming it's 'the most technically innovative VW ever.' Judging by the spec, we don't doubt it. 8-speed automatic gearboxes, big reductions in fuel consumption, a petrol-electric hybrid model, improved aerodynamics and overall mass reductions of as much as 208kg are the standout features of VW's new SUV. The all-wheel drive system now comes in two specifications: 4Motion (with a Torsen lsd) and 4XMotion, which features a more rugged transfer case, low range and locking centre and rear differentials.

For the interior, VW claims more comfortable seats, increased rear legroom and a slide and tilt rear bench that can be electrically folded as an option. The dashboard has been beautifully reworked and is much more modern and even more upmarket. European models get a touch screen infotainment system, electromechanical parking brake, multiple exterior cameras, adaptive cruise control, up to nine airbags, lane and side assist, massive panoramic sunroof and stop/start on V6 versions all in the mix.

As for the way it looks, conservatives will love it. The front end faithfully follows Volkwagen's new styling DNA and the rest of the body is typically Touareg although subtly redefined. Different enough to lure new buyers, similar enough not to alienate existing owners, seems to be the meassage from VW. With sustainability in sharp focus, the SUV is alive and well.

Touareg is not for me!

Little changes. The style is the same. Only some cosmetics. Too much seen and quite boring. Not for me.

The Touareg has been existing

The Touareg has been existing for quite some time now but it seems like Volkswagen hasnt updated its parts directory yet. The parts are very hard to find even with its 3rd party providers.

New Touareg

This is a huge improvement over the previous generation, which has about as much style as an upturned bowl of jelly. Handsome indeed!

New Touareg

Why is it a bad thing that it resembles the Golf or Polo? After all, the Golf was World Car of the Year 2009 and the Polo European Car of the Year 2010.

Family members should resemble one another. The same way you resemble your own Family.

Hot headlights!

No ways is it like Golf and Polo. Those headlights are so striking and I love those LEDS (I think they are) around the main lamp.
Great work on reducing emissions VW!

Too much Golf / Polo

You are rating the photos.... Adjust the size in your mind and you will realize this is the nicest Touareg to emerge from VW to date. It looks butch and one can actually imagine yourself to be seen in one of these! Something most wouldn't have dared with the previous ugly duckling. With reference on the looks; at least it has a resemblance to other vehicles from the same stable....
