After a 16-year absence the new Lotus team officially launched their car for the 2010 season on Friday 12th February, in the UK. Backed by a consortium of Malaysian entrepreneurs, the Lotus T127 was unveiled at the Royal Horticultural Hall, with legendary British F1 names like Frank Williams, Stirling Moss and Nigel Mansell in attendance. Sporting the traditional green and yellow Lotus colours and powered by Cosworth, Lotus is also one of the four new entrants in this year’s season. Former Toyota driver Jarno Trulli and ex-McLaren driver Heikki Kovalainen will be at the wheel of the new Lotus whilst Fairuz Fauzy has secured the test driver position. Speaking at the launch, team principal Tony Fernandes, together with chief technical officer Mike Gascoyne, spoke with pride of his team in getting the car ready in a matter of months since entry was granted to them by the FIA. The question now remains, if the return of the historic marque to F1 after a 16-year absence will do justice to the legendary Lotus name started by Colin Chapman in the 60’s.

Lotus T127
Well it looks the business and managed to aquit itself fairly well in testing this week despite some glitches. Almost all of the other teams at the Jerez test had already run their car previously so I think the Lots did a respectable job for their first outing. Great to see the brand back in F1!
