Honda has unveiled a New Small Concept at the Auto Expo 2010 in New Delhi and have announced plans to begin sales of a new model based on this concept in 2011. Initial target markets are India and Thailand.
Although Honda found its creativity cupboard bare when it came time to name the little five-seater, the New Small Concept is not your average econobox. It features energetic sheetmetal with a similar family feel to the forthcoming CR-Z hybrid hatch. Honda calls it wide for its size, while concealed rear door handles and a severely tapered glasshouse convey the obligatory coupe effect.
According to Honda, the 'aim is to provide a new small-sized vehicle that is beyond the expectations of customers in rapidly growing markets – offering the car at an affordable price by leveraging Honda's global parts sourcing network.' Let's hope that translates to real affordability and that the production car keeps most of the funk.
