35 years after the first one, Porsche will publicly display the next generation 911 Turbo at Frankfurt next month. But first, the all-important internet launch. While it does look the same, no surprise there, it boasts improvements in several key areas. Porsche claims ‘increased performance, lower weight, enhanced driving dynamics and greater fuel efficiency.’

At the heart of these claims lies a new 3.8-litre flat six, which features direct fuel injection and twin variable turbine turbochargers. Power output rises to 368kW, good for 0-100kph in a scorching 3.4 seconds and a 312kph top end. Despite this, Porsche claims configuration specific combined fuel consumption of between 11.4 and 11.7 litres/100km – impressive (in theory).

In line with the recently renewed ‘lesser’ 911s, the new Turbo can also be ordered in seven-speed PDK (Double clutch gearbox) guise. But wait, here’s the cool part. As a further option, you can specify your PDK with an alternative steering wheel with proper left down-shift, right up-shift paddles.

Porsche engineers have also worked on the dynamics with most of the acronyms receiving a tune up, like PTM (Porsche Traction Management) and PSM (Porsche Stability Management). A new option on the Turbo is PTV or Porsche Torque Vectoring which transfers torque to the wheel which still has grip as opposed to just cutting power when a wheel loses grip.

The new Porsche 911 Turbo – the micro evolution continues.
