When creating a virtual endurance racing Acura (Honda America’s luxury brand) for the year 2025, João Melo sought inspiration from the current crop of LMP1-class prototype race cars like Audi’s R15. Still, his was no blind charge into the future. There’s a healthy reference to the past as well in the form of the Chaparral 2A from the early ’60s. For motivation, João envisages a highly advanced, ultra-efficient Honda rotary engine running on biofuel. The result is a fast, frugal single-seater, closed cockpit racer with a predatory front end and retro-themed, integrated wing rear – an evocative collusion of a bygone era and one still to come.
