Anthony Taylor (BMW) took two of the three Bridgestone South African Production Car Championship races at Kyalami on Saturday and increased his lead in the class A title chase. Following the BMW across the line in the first sprint race was team-mate Melvill Priest ahead of the two Nissan 350Zs of Leeroy Poulter and Marco da Cunha.
The Subarus of Groenewald and Dawie Botha occupied the reverse grid for the second sprint and romped to a 1-2 victory ahead of Priest and Taylor. In a late finishing feature race over 12 laps, Taylor sealed his dominance on the day and crossed the line with headlights blazing ahead of Priest and the Audis of Michael Stephen and Tschops Sipuka.
Defending champion Gary Formato (Ford Focus) was the big scorer in class T, winning the second and third races, ahead of the VW Golfs of Gennaro Bonafede and Ronan Quarmby in the second sprint and in front off a hard-charging Quarmby in the feature.
Van Rooyen won race one ahead of Shaun Duminy (Ford) and Quarmby after poleman and championship leader Graeme Nathan crashed his VW Golf heavily.
Championship leader Lance Isaacs (Honda) won both Interfile Superbike races from pole position, but was harried on both occasions by Greg Gildenhuys (BMW). In the first race, reigning champion Sheridan Morais was in on the act, finishing third on an Aprilia.
The same three were at it again in race two, which was red-flagged when Morais fell while fighting off the BMW for second. Reduced to a three-lap sprint, the race continued with Isaacs winning ahead of a determined Gildenhuys and Chris Leeson (Honda)
Championship leader Brandon Auby (Jaguar) and Danie Correia (Chev Corvette) shared the WesBank V8 Supercar wins. Jaco Correia (Corvette) was second in race one and Franco de Matteo (Jaguar) was third. Correia’s win in race two was a maiden victory for him and he crossed the line ahead of Auby and Di Matteo.
Reigning champion Mathew Hodges (Polo Vivo) took back to back wins in the Engen Volkswagen Cup. Devin Robertson was second ahead of Master Class driver Miguel Pasqualli in the opening race, while the podium in race two was filled by Pasqualli and Brian Morgan.
Simon Moss won both Formula Volkswagen races from Wesleigh Orr, while Gordon Connelly and Tasmin Pepper shared third places.
