Darryn Lobb back on top in Shelby CanAm

The fifth round of the Pro Tour at Zwartkops Raceway on Saturday saw defending champion Darryn Lobb dominate the Shelby CanAm proceedings, winning both races from pole position.

Former champion and current championship leader Rui Campos was second in a rather processional first race, ahead of Brian Algar and Guy Botteril, the top four all finishing in the order in which they started.

Alan Eve was fifth ahead of Thomas Reib, George Ferreira and Greg Walker, with Andrew Strike and Bertil Hoffman making up the top 10.

With Campos departing race two in the opening laps after an incident, Hanno Pengilly and Doug MacDonald were able to get in on the action and completed the podium.

Charl Joubert all the way in Altech GT

Charl Joubert (Lotus Exige) took overall honours in both Altech GT races after contender Vernon Bricknell (Porsche GT2) encountered problems in race one and missed race two.  The Ferrari F430s of Jeremy Pougnet and Nic Chapman were second and third in the opening encounter, separated by just two seconds.

Rod Cole-Edwardes (Porsche 993 GT2) got the better of the Ferraris in race two, finishing second ahead of Chapman and Franco Scribante’s F430.

Formula Ford 1-2 for Wolk

Two exciting Formula Ford races saw Robert Wolk (Mygale) convert pole position into back-to-back wins, ahead of Jayde Kruger (Mygale) and James Temple (Mygale) in race one and with Matthew Merton (Mygale) and Kruger filling the podium in race two.

Some of the steam went out of the first race when top contender Wesleigh Orr (Van Diemen) and Merton retired after separate incidents.  However, Kruger kept the winner honest all the way, finishing just eight tenths of a second in arrears.

Race two saw a recovered Merton hound Wolk to the finish, crossing the line less than half a second behind.  Kruger was a close third, another seven tenths of a second adrift at the flag.
