Merton takes both FF wins in East London
Matthew Merton Mygale) took both wins in the opening round of the Pro Tour’s Investchem Formula Ford championship at the East London Grand Prix Circuit on Saturday. In the season’s first outing of the new Duratech-engined formula, there were also strong performances by Steve Morris (Van Diemen) and Robert Wolk (Mygale), who each scored a second place for the day.
Reigning champion Nicholas van Weely (Van Diemen) completed the podium in both races after problems in qualifying saw him forced to fight his way through the field on each occasion. Wolk was fourth in race one ahead of Werner Scholtz (Mygale) and James Temple (Mygale) and Scholtz completed the top five in race two.
Shelby Can-Am wins for Botterill and Lobb
There were wins for Guy Botterill and reigning champion Darryn Lobb in the Shelby Can Am series at East London. Rui Campos was second in race one ahead of Lobb, Brian Algar and Sean Greve. Andrew Strike led throughout most of the second race only to be hauled in by Lobb on the final lap. Greve was third ahead of Algar and Alan Eve.
Venter on top in GT Challenge
Toby Venter won both heats of the Altech GT Challenge in his Porsche GT2R from Lance Arnold (Porsche GT3 Cup) on both occasions. Franco Scribante (Ferrari F430) was third in race one, while Pieter Joubert (Lotus Elise) completed the podium in race two
