The four Peugeot 908's topped the times for the first practice at Le Mans. The session spanned four hours, giving the teams time to practice in both daylight and night conditions.
The number two car of Franck Montagny, Stephane Sarrazin and Nicolas Minassian lead the way at the end of the session just over a second ahead of the Sebastien Bourdais Peugeot. Third and fourth was also easily wrapped up by the remaining Peugeots. Worrying for the R15 plus Audi squads is that they were unable to get within 3.5 seconds of the lead Peugeot.
The R15 plus does look an improved package however, showing consistent speed over the long runs and all three cars lapping within a second of each other.
The factory Lola Aston Martins were the leading petrol powered cars but the gap to the diesel powered cars remains too large to be competitive.
The red five car driven by Nigel Mansell and his two sons finished second last in LMP1 but the Ginetta Zytek isn't competetive in the class and they will do well to stay off the bottom of LMP1.
In LMP2 David Braham was fastest in a Highcroft HPD ARX-01c.
In GT1 the Aston Martin DBR9 is fastest by nearly three seconds ahead of a Corvette.
In the GT2 category the field spread is a lot closer with a Corvette C6 ZR1 topping the class. The M3 art car is 12th in class but only five seconds off the lead Corvette.
