Volkswagen’s Polo series has been a runaway success ever since the badge was introduced in 1996. This latest iteration just so also happens to be their third new vehicle to carry the brand’s new corporate (flat) face after the Scirocco and Golf VI, the resultant chiseled visage immediately conjures up the same sort of emotion - it’s a handsome car. Engine types include 1.4i and 1.6i petrol lumps (available in five speed manual or auto) plus a torquey 1.6 turbo diesel derivative. The engines (all but the crank and camshafts) just like the rest of the car, are being churned out of the local Uitenhage plant. Build quality and materials are top notch, but then they would have to be as they’ll be exported to India and China in addition to local duty.
New Polo’s handling package is sublime, and the trim and finish of the cabin top notch – but it’s that muscular, yet restrained exterior that has us won over from the word go. It’s little more than a hunch really, but we predict a segment leader in the making. The fact that 300 000 Polos have been snapped up by the South African public since 1996 means its got a real shot.

Polo´s ugly!
It´s so ugly! Doesn´t have substance and style. Unispired and poor!
new polo
i love it so good
Not for me!
What a crazy price for such an ugly thing! Not for me! There are better alternatives like the Fiesta, Yaris, Jazz, Clio, Grand Punto, Corsa, 207 or Tiida.
VW pricing -eisch
Jeez VW needs to touch ground again with their prices heh !!!!
Vivo is gonna swallow the new Polo's sales for sure eisch !!
1.6TDi Dealerprice
Saw the dealerprice for the 1.6TDi....R169k and then they sell it to us for R209k
GOOD BUT.....
The new polo is an improvement, but it doesnt bring anything new to the small hatch segment, the styling is class but dull, the interior is high quality but the lower spec models have exposed metal trim whereas the higher spec models have plastic trim, i believe that aircon and cd/radio should be standard. and lack of service plan is a disappointment, every one of the polos competitors has one as standard. test drove the 1,4, , comfortable and solid, but dissapointed with average fuel consumption of 8,3litres per hundred. wheres the progress in that? vw should really consider bringing the 1,2 litre fsi model over.
100% worth it
Got it...........love it.........what an awesome car!!!!!
JohnDOE
And all of South Africas criminals will love this one, imagine what they will get for its radiator and wheels

300 000 boring people
SA has such a droll and boring public when it comes to cars - all those dead-dull Beemers , Mercs and Golfs are proof. Of course this dead-dull Polo will sell in huge numbers to our dead-dull motoring public - what a great pity the really pretty and interesting cars take a back seat. .....................yawn, yawn.................................
New Polo
Oh! So BORING - why not let it have its own character instead of being a cloned (and [filtered word]-shaped) Golf 6. What has happened to adventurous and innovative styling? New blood needed in the design department, for sure - it looks crappy to say the least. And those prices are LUDICROUS !!!!!! What a cheek !!!!
Not good
This is probably the most underwhelming article on the site.
The same too goes for the car as the rear looks cheap and its generally boring styling.
Prices!!!
VWSA is smoking some powerful Despatch Dagga to come up with these prices...farkin hell - R200k for a 1.6 with some options!!!
Nice car, if you can afford it.
not bad
i just wanna see the GTI first
No thank you. Not impressed.
No thank you. Not impressed. It looks like a Golf 6 and that is not a good thing and the back like a picanto. Current Polo looks allot better! I hope the 1.6i is not the 76 kW engine that is currently in Golf 6. Other car manufactures get around 91-97 kW out of a naturally aspirated engine
Guess half the country who
Guess half the country who can afford 1 will be buying it- except you!
And for the money, it's a mini ( stepping stone ) Golf6- what it's supposed to be.
Looks awesome..
Golf6 GTI driver and VW fan!
in the flesh
I've seen this car in the flesh. In its class, it is unbeatable - as long as the price doesn't escalate too much.
Not impressed.

VW also need to add turbo's to their engines to make them competitive, and we all know how reliable VW's turbo's are?
Great car
This car looks b eautiful and it will sell like hot cakes.
Nice car!!
I hope the computer fixture in the middle of the dashboard console is real and available in RSA.
I'm also concerned about the car pricing, its absolutely ridiculous, I'm mean I bought Polo 2.0 Highline in 2007 brand new for around R150,000, now it costs R232,000 (scary stuff hey). I don't want to think what the cost of the New Polo GTI will be.
Something needs to be done about the SA car prices quick and fast!!
Mmm
I'll be buying one of these in the near future. 1.6 TDi please...
