Not to be confused with the similarly named Hummer, this van actually has a future. And it’s potentially a rosy one too thanks in part to next year’s 2010 Soccer World Cup, which Hyundai is headlining as one of the three core sponsors. The H-1 is therefore well poised to serve up a hat-trick as the flood of tourists and soccer fans stream in. They’ll need transportation, and that bodes well for a vast nine-seater wagon and similarly specced panel van similar in form and function to the Mercedes Vito, VW T5 Kombi and Toyota’s Quantum. In its current 2.4-litre petrol-only guise, the H-1 manages to undercut them on price while offering a cosseting interior in beige leather and an extensive selection of modern conveniences and safety devices. The wagon’s sticker has been pegged at R289 000, with a despecced interior available in the R234 900 panel van. Both include Hyundai’s five-year/150 000km warranty and five-year/100 000km service plan. The ride is sublime, we like the value and can’t help but applaud the boot space, but with only two colours in the options swatches – make that ‘Telkom White’ and ‘City Lodge Silver’ – it’s pretty clear this vehicle has been tailor-made to suit the service and fleet industries.

I was very overcome with the center of the H-1 - skin equipment all round! The look and feel is plush. As a person along for the ride, right in the back - the third row, I had a good look around and was a little dissatisfied when I noticed there are only inaction reel security belts for the outer passengers in the second and third rows. The centre seats only have lap belts. 650-251 exam
