JD Survey--what is the best brand to buy?
Fri, 2010/07/09 - 12:34pm — fayers
Hi, I am seriously disappointed in my recent purchase. E90 BMW 323i august 2008 pre-facelift. Recently hit a few rocks on poorly lit roadworks areas late at night and damaged two left wheels and shock absorber last week thursday.
Just to replace two wheels and shock, it took bmw at least the whole week this week, and I still don't know if they completed. they never phoned to let me know how far they are--i'm phoning them everyday, otherwise they cant even phone me when they promise to phone me back.
Runflats also are expensive, inconvenient in a puncture, and my ride comfort is hard, thanks to runflats.
These cars depreciate so bad, my car's value dropped R30 000 to R40 000 in two months!
Does anyone know what companies offer a much better after-sales service in general, and what cars hold their value the best?
Also, how can I contact or e-mail a post to the JD survey etc?

Unhappy Bmw 323i driver
I love how you say your car depreciated so much in 2 Months. Take any manufacturer, they all will all depreciate the same % in the first 2 months even Merc! Must the dealer buy your car back @ retail, then sell it for what? On average a dealer will make 10% margin if they are lucky (hence your R20-30k depreciation) Is a dealer or Salesperson not allowed to make a profit? Then I'm almost sure you gave the dealer a crap CSi rating after you screwed them on the price, sounds like buyers remorse here? Runflats have pro's and cons, take out tyre insurance! Runflats will last as long as normal tyres. Check the tyre pressures every 2 weeks and not like typical customers who think they don't have to because it's a runflat and complain when they their tyres don't last 20 000kms! You should have known runflats where pricey when you bought the car and test driven it to check the ride! Yes, I'm a Bmw Salesperson and love the product as my Blood is Blue and White! Enjoy your Audi or Merc, Both fantastic Cars
But without the Drive
My Focus
My 2002 Ford Focus just turned 200.000 Km and till now not a single problem! Several trips to Mozambique and Botswana and only needs oil and petrol. A fine car above all quite reliable and robust.
service
Had a '72 RX-2 -- no problems! Had a '83 Skyline -- no problems. Ditto 92 Maxima-- best car I ever had--in all respects. Besides servicing, only replaced a clutch and a starter solenoid in 360,000 k's. My 2005 C200, already replaced front and rear suspension bushes, front shocks,T/chain tentioners, engine mountings, all under maintanance plan (phew). Here comes the rub.My next car will be from the east. Any one seen the new Sonata yet? Cheers snob appeal and heavy expences,Hello Korea or Japan. I will welcome myself home!!! As for my poor brother and his BMW!!??!! Ag Shame... dont have a water loss. Its pot luck and after 5 visits and about R6000 we went else where --- nondealer.
Me 2
Had horrible experience with my BM 330 i. Every service was such a mission, My car was never done on time, and they will also never called me, i have to call them! Over and above that I had to replace the engine after 57000km and BMW refused to back me with the warrenty. It cost me more than what my car is worth to replace. I sold my car for Just over R160 000 (Private) and even that was more than I expected. Recently i bought a Lexus IS250 and what a great company, I must say no one compares with LEXUS when it comes to customer service!! Plus the IS250 is unique, getting allot more good comments from people about the lexus compared to my old Beemer (i guest BMW is not really unique anymore). Good luck with your choice!!
comment to repairs
Hi, the BM is a brilliant car, have a 335i coupe, 10th BM I've owned. As to the repairs, take the invoices for tyres, rims etc to the nearest SANRAL or Provincial Roads Dept office with backup documentation, incl photos of the potholes etc and force them to pay the costs. Have done it myself before and they dock up without too much hassle. Although that was a while back. Maybe now all the money has been "appropriated".
As to service at different dealerships, all the same irrespective, whether Daimler, Chrysler, Toyota, been there done them. Have heard that Subaru give better service.
rims
Share the pain mate. I had to take out personal loan to pay the repair bills on my car after the roads agency's pot holes took out my rims.
